SEAL at Mount Pleasant

SEAL is a whole school approach at Mount Pleasant Primary School. A number of systems have been put into place to reinforce SEAL across the school.

Each theme is carefully planned for to ensure a cross key stage approach to SEAL. The children within each Key Stage work together to create a SEAL display. Once a week the children attend a SEAL assembly where they reflect on the work they have learnt the previous week. Every Monday the children have the opportunity to gain a Head Teachers award with outstanding work. This work is related to the five key aspects of SEAL.

The children worked together to design logo’s for the 5 key aspects of SEAL. These logos are used on stickers to reinforce use of good SEAL skills throughout the school and on the SEAL school certificates.

The children are carefully tracked on ‘I can statements’ in SEAL throughout the school. Once a children has obtained two ‘I can statements’ in each key aspect they can then achieve the bronze SEAL award. Four statements achieves the Silver award, six statements the Gold award and all eight statements the Excellence award. The children create their own certificates by sticking each logo onto their own certificate when they have achieved two ‘I can statements’ for each key aspect.

The SEAL lessons support the children achieving the ‘I can statements’. The SEAL ‘I can statements’ are displayed in every classroom and on Key Stage displays so they are reinforced throughout the school. A whole school tracking system is kept at the main reception area where the SEAL co-ordinator is able to see individual children’s progress in SEAL.
